1. What is NamRecruit.com?

NamRecruit.com is a recruitment website with the main aim of bringing together job seekers and job offerings. It is an automated system whereby key words in CV’s and job adds is linked to match available jobs with qualifying job seekers. (also refer to “about” for additional information)

2. What is a recruitment website?

Recruitment websites provide a service whereby jobseekers list their CVs in an electronic format and apply electronically for posted jobs. There are more than a 100 000 recruitment websites globally in operation.

3. What is the difference between a recruitment website and a job agency?

Recruitment websites makes provision for the electronic placement of job advertisements by companies and employees apply specifically for positions which they qualify for. Applications are screened through automated filters. It is therefore interactive recruitment whereby employers focus on the target market in obtaining the skills which they desire (also refer to job alerts and job filter questions). Job agencies on the other hand focus on matching a client’s needs with applications on their books. NamRecruit is free for job seekers and companies posting advertisements. A small fee is however payable by companies in order to get additional services (refer to offerings for more information). A percentage (varying from 6% to 14%) of the recruited employee’s annual package is normally taken as payment by recruitment agencies. Some recruitment agencies link to recruitment websites in order to extend their own database.

4. Are there any cost involved for jobseekers if they register their CV?

All services provided to job seekers are 100% free. This includes the creation of CVs, downloading of same, applying for positions / bursaries / job attachments, etc.

5. What is a CV?

CV is the acronym for “Curriculum Vitae”. A Curriculum Vitae is a summary of a person’s personal, educational and work experience data. The CV is used by job seekers to advertise their services and is used by employers to judge whether a person applying for a position, meet relevant criteria. It is therefore very important for job seekers to have an inspiring CV that will catch the eye of recruiters.

6. What is an application letter?

Application letters normally accompany a CV when a person applies for a position. CVs are generic documents that is only updated when the info therein change for whatsoever reason. An application letter is however a specific document that is addressed to the recruiter and such application letter will in summary indicate why the job seeker is the ideal candidate for the position by highlighting matching criteria between the job requirements and the job seeker’s CV information. The application letter is the first contact that the jobseeker has with the recruiter and usually determines whether the recruiter will explore the application further or not.

7. What is a application form?

Certain companies expect job seekers to apply for positions on a specific form which is also known as an application form. The job seeker is required to complete relevant fields on the form and the attachment of a CV or application letter is usually not required.

8. Is it possible for visitors to the site to view my personal details?

No. The site is very secure and only published job advertisements can be viewed.

9. Will my current employer know that I am registered with NamRecruit.com?

No. Employers and companies only have access to applicants who specifically apply for a position at that company. Employers may choose an option to study the database for temporary employed or unemployed people. The data base for permanently employed people will never be accessible to companies. Unemployed and temporary job seekers need to specifically indicate that their CV’s may be viewed by recruiters.

10. What if I do not have an e-mail address?

You may choose to create a free e-mail address through Yahoo.com, MSN, etc. You may also fax or mail your CV to namrecruit and they will set up an account for you. It is however important that the relevant application form is completed in order to ensure an accurate upload – follow this link to download and print a hardcopy of the application form. Further note that after your account is created, you can log in at any time by using your cell phone number as user ID and personal ID number as password.

11. What is a 'job alert'?

Job alert is a function of namrecruit.com whereby the job seeker is notified when a suitable position is advertised. Notifications are sent by e-mail and job seekers specifically need to complete the job filter questions and tick the appropriate notification tick box in order to receive job alerts.

12. Is job alerts a free system?

Yes, if the job alert is sent via e-mail. A small fee is however chargeable when job alerts are sent via sms. (The sms service is currently under development and registered job seekers will need to specifically request this service once it is operational).

13. What are job filter questions?

Job filter questions are selected criteria which the job seeker needs to complete in order for the system to match the skills and attributes of job seekers to available positions. It is therefore very important to be clear on the filter questions.

14. Can I advertise for the services of a domestic worker?

Yes.

15. What is the definition of a fix term contract employee?

A fix term contract employee is also known as a temporary employee. The employee is employed for a fixed period or alternatively for the duration of a well defined assignment.

16. What is the definition of a permanent employee?

Permanent employees can be defined as an employee employed on an open ended contract basis. I.e. the employee is employed for an indefinite period. Permanent employees are also known as open ended contract employees.

17. What is the definition of a job attachment?

Job attachment can be defined as a person obtaining practical experience in his her line of work in order to compliment the theoretical knowledge that he/she obtained during his/her studies. Job attachments are usually linked to a fix term contract with the employer being expected to compile a report on the progress of the candidate during his/her job attachment with the company.

18. What is part time work?

Part time work can be defined as work or an assignment that requires a person to work only a few hours per day and or a few days per week. Part time work is usually linked to a fix term contract. Examples of part time work can possibly be waitering in the evening and or over weekends, etc. Students and scholars usually take up part time work.

19. What is the definition of a temporary employee?

A temporary employee can be defined as a job assignment offered to a person with a fixed period linked to it. A person will for example help out in the position of another employee for a fixed period of time while that person is on leave. Temporary employees are also known as fix term contract employees.

20. What if I want to cancel a job alert?

Log in and tick the “cancel” job alert tick box.

21. I want to cancel my registration with NamRecruit?

Log into your profile. Select edit profile and tick the “delete my profile” tick box. A pop pup screen will ask whether you are sure and then click OK.

22. What is a bookmark?

Users can set a virtual bookmark on a web page that is of interest to you. Employees can bookmark job ads and later return to their bookmarks in order to apply for that position. Employers will bookmark promising applicants and return to their profiles at a later stage. Bookmarks are therefore a very useful reference which a person can use to trace interesting information which he/she wants to view at a later stage.

23. What is a 'Professional Authority'?

Professional authority is defined as an addition to a driver's licence which authorizes the holder to transport people and goods. During registration, select 'Not applicable' if you are not in possession of a professional authority.

24. What is 'duration of no formal employment'?

During registration we ask you to explain any periods of unemployment in order for the recruiter to understand any gaps in your employment history. Your employment history starts immediately after leaving school or upon the completion of full time tertiary studies.

25. What are 'Future Employment Preferences' for?

During registration we ask you some questions about your 'future employment preferences'. This section enables recruitment agencies to find you when searching the database. You may, however, select to hide your information from recruitment agencies by stipulating your choice under the ´Options´ heading below the 'future employment preferences' section.

26. Why do I have to create a name for my CV?

We ask you to create a name for your CV so that it is easily identifiable to recruiters or employers and yourself if you choose to print it out. The selected name will be displayed at the top of your hard copy / electronic copy of your CV. You can use for example: 'Curriculum Vitae: Your name'.

27. Why do I have to insert keywords about my skills?

We ask you to insert key words so that employers can find your CV. Insert specialised subjects and computer packages that you are proficient in. For example: mathematics, accounting, labour law, tax, financial accounting, Corel Draw, MS Office Word, typing, etc.

28. What do I need to input for 'years of experience in the industry'?

Indicate the number of years' experience you have in the industry in which you are searching for employment. Only insert a numerical number. I.E. 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 etc.

29. Why should I complete the section entitled 'Position/Industry'?

The completion of this section will enable the system to match your preferences with advertised jobs. If selected, you will receive an email notification to inform you that a job advert was published on namrecruit.com which meets your preferences and criteria. You may then select to view the advert and decide whether to apply for the job or not.

30. Which 'Options' should I choose during registration?

It is recommended to register for a job alert in order to be notified when a suitable job is advertised on namrecruit.com. And it is required to choose any one of the 3 additional options in order for the system to manage your preferences.

1. What is the maximum period for which an ad may run?

The maximum running time for any ad is 3 weeks from date of posting.

2. How are applicants filtered?

Applicants score their compliance to the requirements of the posted ad and these scores are then translated into a percentage compliance. All applicants’ applications are then directed to the employer with the scores attached. The latter speeds up the short listing process.

3. What are 'intercompany job ads'?

Registered employers may upload the e-mail addresses of all their personnel. The employer may then select to only send a job/bursary ad to company employees thus advertising the position internally within the company. The employer may later select to post the same ad to the website or do both at the same time.
